Cornwall - A Holiday For Everybody

Posted on March 19, 2008 - Filed Under Travel Destinations

Cornwall has long been one of the most popular destinations for holidays in the UK for families, couples and those looking for an active holiday. Cornwall is lucky as it has some of the UK’s most beautiful beaches, great for both surfing and sandcastles.

Cornwall is most fortunate to have such a mild climate. Because it is warmer than any other part of the UK, many plants grow in Cornwall that will not survive in any other part of the country and this gives Cornwall an almost Mediterranean atmosphere when the weather is fine.

Newquay is one of the most popular regions in Cornwall. It has 10 magnificent beaches which are great for surfing and there are lots of surf schools in Newquay so that beginners can learn to surf safely. There is also a wealth of restaurants, bars and a vibrant nightlife. It is also close to many popular family attractions such as Blue Reef Aquarium and Newquay Zoo.

Looe, on Cornwall’s south coast, boasts a picturesque harbour, a sandy beach and is well located for visiting many stately homes and gardens.

St. Austell is the home of The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens Of Heligan, two incredible feats of horticulture and landscaping. It is also convenient for many lovely coastal towns and villages.

St. Ives is a magnet for culture lovers, particularly as it is the home of the Tate St. Ives which showcases the work of the many artists who have lived and worked in St Ives. You can also visit the home and workshop of sculptor Dame Barbara Hepworth and the town is full of small galleries featuring the work of local artists. It also has a beautiful sandy surfing beach.

Bodmin in central Cornwall is on the edge of Bodmin Moor, an Area Of Outstanding Beauty and home of many legends, most famously the Beast Of Bodmin Moor.
